Culture needs explaining

Words like Abitur, Feierabend or Pfand have no English equivalent. Describe what they are in a short relative clause or apposition instead of inventing a word.

A text message to a friend and an email to a company carry the same facts in different language. Match the reader: contractions and short sentences for friends, full forms and polite phrases for adults you don't know.
